About Us

John Chilton started Southwind Marine Services in January 2000. He was trained at the Havorn Marine, Shipwright and Survey school in Seattle, Washington and became an Accredited Marine Surveyor with the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors with the designation of Yachts and Small Craft. He currently holds a 50 ton near coastal master captain's license from the U.S. Coast Guard and has 35 years of mechanical and business experience in a parallel industry. John Chilton is a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, IAMI (International Association of Marine Investigators), ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) and the Propeller Club Port of Nashville.

Integrity is a surveyor's most important qualification. Our reputation for honesty and integrity is most important to us. We believe in treating all parties fairly, avoiding any conflict of interest. We are not involved in selling boats, equipment, nor do we have any financial interest in any organization that does. We will not be influenced to inflate a vessels worth by relationships with brokers. Likewise we will not find fault with a vessel simply to undermine a broker or "low ball" the seller.

We work for you, the buyer and we will not share the results of your survey with any other person or entity with out your written permission.
